AN EMAIL FROM MR DJ!
november 30, 2010 09:04pm
Dear Amanda,
Gave my mum instructions to send you some photo's of my gorgeous new friend Stella.
I have felt very lonely when my beloved Didi passed away and am so glad that mum and dad have met you, because now I feel so much better again. I know that I might have behaved a bit "macho-like" in the beginning when Stella came to stay. But I think I got a bit confused because of all the things that had been happening. I know that mum felt very confused too....she was still very sad about the loss of Didi, wasn't really sure if she could love another doggie again so fast after losing Didi and was worried about me being so upset. But just as me I know she already loves Stella a lot. Things seem to work out for the best and I promise to be a very good companion for Stella. I'm already learning her "the look that makes you get away with anything". Mum and Dad fall for that one every time!
(Dad is even easier to foul, just like me he tries to be a macho but boy do we both suck at that...excuse my language).
So I hope you like the pics and I'm looking forward to seeing you again soon,
Paws
DJ

MORE FROM THE BARNEY FILES!
november 30, 2010 08:51pm
Nicky - this Barney update is for you! Everyone at the puppy party missed Leah and Phil because they were keen to hear what cheeky Barney had been up to! It seems he is still terrorising his parents but his charming personality lets him get away with more than he should! Seriously though if there was a "LabraDOG Award" for "committment, determination and effort" Then Leah and Phil would win hands down!
Hey Amanda,
Barney has had a busy month! Barney has been on two visits to my brother's 70 acres. We stayed the night for the first time last weekend. Barney had a great time, all those smells! Roos, wombats, goats, rabbits, cattle, Barney heaven! But we would have preferred a little more sleep. My brother has afew steers and they kept invading camp, which meant Barney was freaking out. Not so much because he was scared, but because Barney is nuts and thinks that he is big and able enough to acquire his own piece of steak. After the steers finally gave up at 3am, Barney wouldn't settle until he was taken for a walk to assess that all was OK and in order. Phil and I had one tired pup when we arrived home on Sunday afternoon. He has also made good friends with 'Princess,' my Mum and Dad's GSP. 'Lucy' their Staffy x is not so fond of him though, but I told Barney not to take it personal, because she is like that with just about every dog she meets. Barney has also managed to give himself a nice singe mark on his shoulder fur from camp fire.....who knows how long that will take to grow out! (Barney also got a holiday sized serving of food- a little extra than usual shh....)
Barney has been to the vet a couple of times. All this outdoor activity has caused poor Barney to have some fairly severe allergic reactions around his muzzle, stomach and paws. The vet put him on some steroid medication, it wasn't working that well, so we have just increased the dose. Hopefully that works, because we don't want Barney to be uncomfortable anymore, poor little bugger was red raw at times. He just needs to stop putting his nose into EVERYTHING!
Barney's behaviour is slowly improving, and my finger is also well on the way to recovery. I am able to take him for a walk again. Barney seems to take a little more notice of 'good boy' and 'no' now. Yay! There is still some problems, but we're getting there, I think. We've enlisted the help of a private animal trainer just to get on top of this over zealous behaviour on the lead, I dont want anymore broken fingers! We just haven't been able to calm him down walking on the lead when approaching other dogs. Once that is sorted out, everything else will be a breeze.

MORE CHOCOLATE UPDATES!
november 29, 2010 10:03pm
With updates coming out my ears I thought I would just continue with the chocolate theme! Miss Molly was originally from Hawkesbury Pound. We placed her with what we thought was a great family. Sadly two years on and some renovations meant that there was no longer a home for Molly. People continue to shock me and it seems that John couldn't cope with her menacing his new lawn. As aggarvating as that can be the only person to blame is me! I was the one stupid enough to place her there in the first place so we just roll with the punches. Anyway we found Molly to be as sweet and delightful as always and were thrilled when David wanted to meet her. Molly now lives in the beautiful Blue Mountains where she has another mature labbie for company, an inside and outside lifestyle and regular outings with her new dad. All's well that ends well - below is a picture of Molly and Tara.

MAX IN A MILLION!
november 28, 2010 10:03pm
We couldn’t help but put Max’s picture up. Max was rehomed more than four years ago but he stays fresh in my memory for a number of reasons. Firstly Max was one of very few chocolate labs I had seen in rescue. These days, as their popularity has increased they are a dime a dozen but years ago I saw very few. I generally don’t like people who are surrendering their dogs but Max was what I call a rare genuine surrender. Max’s family had a number of children but one in particular had special needs. I can’t recall too many more of the finer details but suffice to say Max’s parents asked us for help and they took the time to see that Max had found a great home and just showed genuine care and concern and a desire to do all that they needed to do to make our job easier! I also remember Max well because when I met the lovely mature lady who would become Max’s mum there was no way I intended to let her adopt Max! I honestly believed Judy had no idea what she was in for and this crazy chocolate dog was all set to terrorise her life. Judy had a gorgeous Shepherd called Summer who needed a friend and a cheeky little Chihuahua who I was convinced would cause Max no end of grief! Anyway I must have given in because before I knew it I was around at this amazing property checking things out and making sure the doggy introductions went well. Even though Judy lives close by we aren’t in touch often but every now and then Judy phones just to tell me what a fabulous dog Max is and how much she loves him! As it turns out Ross who has just adopted Éclair/Gemma knows Judy well and began his love affair with chocolate labs after getting to know Max! We hope Miss Gemma can fill the big paws in front of her!

WOMBAT DOG UPDATE!
november 28, 2010 10:02pm
Meredith – just for you! The rest of you may remember Jess who arrived into care as the heaviest dog we have ever had, tipping the scales at an incredible 49.4Kg. Jess was only a pretty small labbie but her personality was huge! Fast forward a few months and we were thrilled to see Jess’s mum Anna at the puppy party. These days Jess is down to an amazing 37Kg! I couldn’t believe Anna and Andrew had helped Jess make such a huge difference in a relatively short space of time. Jess is super active, is getting fitter by the day, loves a swim and gets weighed in every week. It won’t be long at all until we see those model pics! Whilst she was here we nicknamed her Wombat dog, as she lost weight Anna tells me her nickname became womdog and before too long she will just be a dog! Fantastic stuff! Below is Jess enjoying her first bone since being on her doggy diet – she looks like she is loving every minute of it!

ARCHIE UPDATE!
november 28, 2010 10:00pm
If you aren’t bored yet it’s time for some chocolate dog updates! You may remember Archie from way back in the blog – Monica I know you will. Archie was an SOS dog who made his television debut on the Secret Millionaire when the gorgeous Sean Ashby gave him a cuddle on camera. At 16 weeks of age Archie was still looking for a fabulous home so after a minor altercation with his owner/.my friend Tracy, I decided to dog nap him and place him into foster care. My good friend Karen was all set to venture into the realms of foster carer extraordinaire but it just so happened that her sensational sister Nicole and her husband Brent were looking for a pup. Before long Archie was in his new home with his doggy brother Casper and whilst I am told Archie has been super naughty he gets away with so much because he is so god damn cute! We would have to agree check him out – he is gorgeous!
