I have so many clients entering my vet clinic with no clue that they should be treating their animals with heartworm medicine.
It's a preventative measure and not something that should be treated once they get the disease.
In fact, heartworm disease is potentially fatal in many animals, including cats and dogs and it is spread through something as simple as a mosquito bite.
Pet Dog
I had a client in my vet the other day with their very sick dog. He had contracted heartworm disease and wasn't in good shape. My client kept telling me they had never been told about heartworm medicine for dogs, all they knew was that dogs got fleas, so they bought flea medicine to protect them. I decided from that point I needed to get the message out there.
Teaching Clients
From that day, everytime a client brought their pet to see me, I asked them whether they were giving them heartworm medication. I couldn't believe how many people told me they weren't and knew nothing about it. I directed them all to heartgard plus for dogs and told them they should go to the shops and grab some immediately.
Bigger Message
than my veterinary clinic, so I started looking into publication I could write into who had a big readership. There were lots of local magazines I considered using, but I decided I wanted to go even larger scale. I started looking nationally.
